On the medical landscape of Zhejiang Province, Taizhou Hospital shines like a dazzling pearl. The three campuses—Enze, East Campus, and Orthopedic Division—each radiate unique brilliance in different regions. Notably, the Sports Medicine Department, led by President Liang Junbo and directed by Dr. Zhou Xiaobo, is the first orthopedic subspecialty in the Taizhou area. Together, the three campuses perform over 4,800 arthroscopic surgeries annually, including nearly 3,000 shoulder surgeries, covering the knee, hip, ankle, elbow, and wrist joints.
During this visit, participants were fully immersed in the daily operations of the department, including clinical diagnosis, ward rounds, outpatient consultations, and surgery observations. Through real cases, they learned advanced sports medicine theories and the latest surgical techniques. Over the course of the three-day observation, Dr. Zhou Xiaobo and his team provided meticulous guidance, addressing clinical challenges faced by the participants, who greatly benefited from the experience.
The surgeries demonstrated during the visit were diverse. Over two days of observation, Dr. Zhou and his team performed 37 minimally invasive arthroscopic surgeries across different joints.
These included 4 tendon bridge reconstructions, 1 coracoid transfer, 1 arthroscopic acromioclavicular joint fixation, 1 Achilles tendon repair, 6 cruciate ligament reconstructions, 2 elbow arthroscopies, 2 ankle arthroscopies, and 2 hip arthroscopies.
The surgical observation course was like a carefully woven tapestry. It progressed from a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge to meticulous practical skills, and then to in-depth analysis of clinical cases, with each layer building upon the previous. Much like climbing a towering peak, the participants took steady steps, gradually gaining a comprehensive understanding of arthroscopic techniques in sports medicine. Whether they were young doctors just starting their careers or experienced physicians seeking to update their knowledge, all found suitable learning paths and gained a wealth of knowledge.
